“Velocity” is a three-tiered kinetic sculpture installed in the foyer of Rapoport Academy’s new gymnasium. Eleven ravens extend outward at staggered heights, each abstracted into planes and open negative space, caught in mid-flight. The arms rotate slowly with air movement in the space, so the flock is never still.
The piece started with the students. Art students developed the original concept: a multi-tiered chandelier that could carry the identity of their school. I worked from that brief, translating their vision into an abstract sculpture with my own geometric language. The result belongs to both processes.
