Ridiculous Expectations, 2024

Shaped, welded and perforated steel, mirror, blackening solution, acrylic paint

12 x 7 x 3 inches

$1400 available

“Ridiculous Expectations” started out as an intuitive play with multiple curved shapes. It was a labor-intensive process of joining circles and curves, then creating a void in the center of a curved contour. The underside is sealed with perforated metal, painted in my signature fiery orange-red color, hidden from plain view. Only with closer attention does the viewer get a glimpse of what’s hidden beneath.

Growing up I crafted “Ridiculous Expectations” in my mind, to manage my environment, circumstances and emotions. The sculpture, born from my childhood’s mental resilience, continues to shape my perspective as an adult. By sharing this personal memory, I hope to foster a sense of connection and understanding. May this work serve as a reminder that even in the most unexpected circumstances, resilience and adaptability can lead to beauty and meaning.
